In 2019, a new community bus service which was introduced in rural areas of Northamptonshire, as public transport availability was rapidly diminishing leaving people isolated and lonely. The service is provided by ABILITY (Northants) and funded by SNC .
For Concessionary bus pass holders the service is provided free within the county of Northamptonshire.
ABILITY (Northants) cic is a new Community Interest Company (11448957), formed to support the residents of South Northamptonshire.
The social enterprise is limited by guarantee, the management board consists of Nigel Hinch, Elliot Charles and Lynn Hinch and will focus its activities on the key issues which is having an impact on the communities within South Northants
A social enterprise does not have shareholders and any profits are reinvested back into the enterprise to fulfil its aims.
Community transport businesses are formed to benefit the community by providing people with the ability to be independent in society.
The community bus service is now being made available across the rural communities of South Northants and South Northampton to provide a weekly shopper bus service to the main shopping areas of Towcester, Brackley, Banbury and Northampton the service operates 5 days a week.
Our SHOPPER BUS service provides the essential link between the rural villages and the local towns around the county of Northamptonshire. With greater reliance on living at home with large number of people living alone we provide the ability to go to the shops to get the essentials.
Collecting users from various points along the route the bus drops off at a number of the major supermarkets and town centres and allows a couple of hours before it returns. To assist those passengers with mobility issues we offer a “Door to Door” service when we collect them from home and return them home and even carry the shopping to the house. Many passengers have time to have a coffee and chat with other passengers “Its more than a bus – its a social club on wheels”
