School Fencing

The school has its new security fencing in place. Although not enhancing the look of the school I suppose it could be a lot worse.

I find it sad that the school has effectively been forced to do this by the County Council without any attempt to assess the risk to children that exists at a rural school. What impression does it leave youngsters with? Do they come to believe that their lives are threatened when in fact we are living in an age of minimal risk, good life expectancy and on the whole extremely safe. In fact there is some evidence to support the claim that we are overprotecting children of today and they will grow up without the ability to assess risk or to be adventurous unless of course it’s within a video game.
